WHAT IS MY METHODOLOGY?
I consider that each person is unique. I don’t think there is one way to learn that works for everyone! That is why the teaching method used will vary. Together we will put together a training plan that adapts to your daily life, needs and goals.
EACH CLASS WILL BE DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY FOR YOU.
Using the latest vocal techniques, we will work on full awareness of your instrument and its functioning. You will learn which muscles are involved in the formation of the voice, and how to control them to be able to make the sound you like the most, in a healthy and pleasant way.
Every class is different, but the format you can expect is:
Step 1
VOCAL AND BODY WARM-UP
We become aware of our instrument (our body) and prepare it to sing correctly. The mode varies depending on its status.
Step 2
VOCAL DEVELOPMENT
We are going to focus on developing your own sound with all its different vocal qualities and stylistic effects, while maintaining your vocal health. To do this we will work with specific exercises using vowels, consonants and scales, among other tools.
Step 3
USE OF THE VOCAL TECHNIQUE
We apply all the content learned to songs. We work on repertoire, interpretation and body expression.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Taking lessons saves you time. It helps you avoid creating bad habits, and shows you how you can most quickly develop your skills.
Once you know how to have good breath control, access chest, mix and head voice, expand your range, and have good pitch control while you sing, you enjoy singing the songs you love more. The more you love it, the better you get, the further you can go.
Yes! I am a believer of the philosophy that anyone can learn to sing better. Just like if you exercise your body you will get stronger, the same is true for your voice and your ear for music. You can grow in technique and ability to hear tones and pitches with practice and the right set of exercises!
However, vocal teachers help their students create better singing habits. But we can’t make you a good singer. Like any skill, the student must put in the time and effort to develop their skill.
A voice coach is a GPS, not an Uber. They can point you in the right direction, but you must travel the path.
I teach students of all ages from 12 years old and up. Also, I teach students of all levels from beginners to professionals, and everything in between!
I like being honest to all my students and followers, though everyone can learn how to sing, not everyone is willing to put the work needed. It’s really important to me that whoever I work with gets a TON of value from our lessons. Below are a few beliefs, actions, or characteristics that make getting that value difficult.
People Too Busy to Practice Singing
People who are unable or unwilling to put in the time practicing what they’ve learned outside of lessons are mostly just not a good fit. It’s not impossible to improve through just lessons, it’s just hard to get results in a timely manner. Practicing saves us both time and ultimately helps you save money.
Those Looking for a Quick Fix – Not to Develop Their Knowledge
I’m not a good choice for people looking for quick fixes. Don´t get me wrong, often times I can provide quick solutions that singers previously didn’t know existed. Even just in the first lesson you are going to start seing changes in your voice, and seeing technique from a different point of view. But it takes time and commitment to truly develop any discipline. Even your favorite professional singers put thousands of hours into developing their skills. If you want to really be good at singing any song at any moment, it takes time and focus.
Your first singing lesson is a way for you and me to get to know each other in a relaxed environment. The first lesson, or what I call an intro session, happens in two parts.
Part 1 – You get to Know me & I Get to Know You
During the first part, I ask a lot of questions so that I understand who you are, what you’re looking to accomplish, and how I can best help. We will do a vocal analysis, stablish your vocal strengths and weaknesses, and set short and long term goals.
Part 2 – Sing & Get Vocal Coach Guidance
In the second part of your lesson, you’ll be guided through some vocal warm ups and we’ll apply some of what you learned in whatever song you bring.
Absolutely! I have numerous exercises geared towards learning how to find a good vocal balance, and thinning and thickening the vocal folds so you can be singing like Mariah Carey or Barry White!
Only if you want to sound like an opera singer! We cater to what you are wanting. While I do work with classical students, most of my students are going for a more commercial sound. We work with people in all styles and genres such as pop, rock, country, jazz, etc!
They sure do. You might be under the impression that amazing vocalists are just born with their amazing abilities. While a lot of professional singers are borned with some talent, only talent won´t take you anywhere long term. Most singers you love today have a vocal coach and work hard on their craft. Michael Jackson had the same vocal coach for over 30 years! Having a vocal coach is just like having a personal trainer as a professional athlete. A singer might “know how to sing,” but all vocalists can benefit from having a professional keeping them in top vocal shape for the many demands of a full time singer, and taking it to the next level.
Just like with anything else, as you gain confidence in your voice and what it can do, you will gain confidence in people hearing you sing. It takes practice! Also, there are specific techniques that help with overcoming stage fright and we can definitely work on that.
Yes! Everything you work on singing lessons can be applied to your speaking voice. Plus, I offer coaching just for speakers! Whether it’s for public speaking, auctioneering, voiceover work, adding dynamic to a monotone voice, fixing a chronic mumble, or just developing better diction. I love helping speakers discover the amazing power and options that their voices possess.
Everyone has different progress rates. It all depends on your starting level, work ethic, the amount you practice in between lessons, and your dedication during lessons. I usually discuss this with my students in the first lesson, after doing the vocal analysis. Every lesson provides an opportunity to learn something new to continue your vocal progression.
That said, you are welcome to take as many lessons as you are comfortable with.
The easiest way to schedule and pay for lessons is to use my online scheduler HERE. You can pay in several differents ways.
If you need help scheduling or don’t see an available time that works for you, be sure to contact info@fionablume.com , and my secretary will do her best to accommodate you!
While all voice lessons are individually tailored for the needs of each student, generally I will begin with a brief discussion about any prior vocal training you may have had (if any), your vocal goals, and any additional questions. So you may think about anything you will like to share with me. Also, choose a song to sing so we can work together on it. Don´t worry, it doesn´t have to be the song you will continue to work on, we can later set a better repertoire together.
Not only are you always welcome to record your lesson, I highly encourage it! Many of our students use their phones to record their lessons, or you can bring a recording device of your choosing. Recording your lesson is a great way to review and continue practicing what you worked on!
For students that take online lessons, I will provide you with recordings myself. I have a software that will record all the exercises and important info of our lesson, and share it to you once we finish. This of course, if you agree!
All sessions must via your Manage account in the website.

WHAT STYLE CAN YOU SING?
Old school teaching has created many fears. Especially in popular music singers. The classic technique vs. contemporary technique. What is healthy and what is not.
Today, thanks to advances in vocal science, we know that there is no “magic recipe” or “only way to sing well.” Rather, you will have different “recipes” or vocal configurations, which you will use depending on the desired sound.
These techniques that we will see in class are the most advanced in the world, they are endorsed by prestigious international speech pathologists.
They have been and are used by great singers of the caliber of Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, Jessie J, among others.
What correct technique does is “assist” the singer and that is why you will be able to sing any musical style. Whether Pop, Jazz, R&B or Lyrical.
